Parents I see what you do...

A big realisation hit me a few days ago … it can be particularly gruelling for parents because the journey we go on together to support their anxious child is often a very difficult one.
Parents have to overcome ingrained ideas, delve deep inside themselves to uncover the values and beliefs that are hurting their child, overcome their own trauma responses and fears for their child’s future as we challenge social norm and face difficult realisations such as they would prefer their child to act and look okay instead of actually BE okay… the realisation that their own social standing and status feels threatened by having non traditional children …
They put all that in … and it’s hard even though it is right … they put all that in and the rewards aren’t actually for them …
The payoff is for their child’s future relationships, for the ABSCENCE of mental health issues, for society as a whole that gains a wonderful individual and not a hurt one that can hurt themselves and others.
It can be very difficult to keep going when you are saving from a future that there is no hard evidence will happen … other than that deep intuition and knowing of what your child needs.
So, I guess this is a shout out to those parents and a thank you for having faith in me and allowing me and my team to walk alongside this journey with you ❤️

We know what we want. But we’ve internalised the idea of what we should want, and we have allowed this to terrorise us.
