Today your children may cry or get angry when they open a present... they are not ungrateful. They are dealing with the emotional transition (autistic, adhd, GAD... hate transitions... yes, this is one too) of it not being what was expected, even if they don't know what they expected... it just wasn't that!
Give them a few minutes to process... even better let them open presents in private so they don't get overwhelmed trying to figure out their own feelings while processing the feelings of those around them; or at least tell them what's inside.
Yes, you can ask the giver... the givers joy of 'surprising' should not trump the child's joy of receiving ❣️
